RingCentral in Australia: RingEX, RingCX and what to check
Independent advice on RingCentral for Australian buyers. What changed when MVP became RingEX, how RingCX differs from the older contact centre product, where the Australian data sits, and the questions worth answering before you sign a three year term.
How RingCentral works
Four things that decide whether RingCentral suits you
RingCentral is the largest UCaaS vendor by market share and a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for UCaaS. Scale is the reason to look at it, and scale is also where the questions come from.
Fit
Where RingCentral wins, and where the price stops making sense
RingCentral is rarely the cheapest option on an Australian shortlist. Whether that matters depends entirely on what you are asking it to do.
It suits you when
You are mid-market or enterprise, you want one vendor across phone, meetings, messaging and contact centre, you need Australian data residency, and you have a CRM your agents work inside all day. The certification list is long enough for most regulated buyers, the SLA is 99.99 percent, and local ANZ support exists.
Scale and integration depth
Look elsewhere when
You are under about fifty users and only need telephony, or your requirement is contact centre alone. At the small end the per user pricing is difficult to justify against 3CX or Dialpad. For contact centre alone, Genesys carries deeper routing and native workforce management, where RingCentral relies on third party workforce and quality management.
Where cost or depth bites
How we help
What a RingCentral selection looks like when it is run properly
We are vendor funded, so the service costs your business nothing. This is the sequence we run whether RingCentral wins or loses.
Establish which product you are actually buying
RingEX, RingCX or the legacy Contact Center. We get this in writing at the start, because the roadmap and the renewal position are different for each and proposals are not always explicit.
Model the licence mix, not the headline rate
RingCentral prices per user and per agent, and the two are not the same money. Most quotes we review have the wrong split between full agents, supervisors and occasional users.
Confirm what Australian residency covers
Voice, recordings, transcripts and AI processing can sit in different places. We ask for it component by component rather than accepting a single yes.
Compare it against the alternatives honestly
Usually 8×8, Dialpad, Zoom, Genesys and Microsoft Teams Phone. We put them side by side on the fields that decide the outcome rather than the feature grid.
Negotiate the term and the renewal
Uplift caps and notice periods are where multi-year RingCentral contracts cost the most, and they are the cheapest thing to fix before signature.
Due diligence
What to check before you commit to RingCentral
These are the items that decide whether the contract still suits you in year three.
Which contact centre product is on the quote
RingCX and RingCentral Contact Center are different platforms with different roadmaps. Ask which one, on what term, and what migrating between them would cost if the roadmap moves.
RingSense AI pricing at your volume
The AI capability is genuinely strong and it is priced separately at scale. Model it against projected usage rather than accepting the bundled allowance in the first year.
What Australian residency actually covers
Ask component by component: voice media, call recordings, transcripts, AI processing and analytics. A single yes to data residency is not an answer to an auditor.
Workforce management is third party
Both workforce management and quality management come from partners rather than RingCentral. Confirm which product, who supports it, and whether it is inside your contract or beside it.
Teams integration depth against native Teams Phone
RingCentral is certified for Teams, and for some organisations Teams Phone with Operator Connect is a simpler answer. Compare the two directly rather than assuming the specialist wins.
The renewal position
Uplift caps, notice periods, and what happens to your numbers and recordings on exit. On a three year term this is worth more than any first year discount.
Common questions
Questions about RingCentral
What Australian buyers ask before they choose RingCentral
How much does RingCentral cost in Australia?
Pricing is per user per month for RingEX and per agent per month for RingCX, with the agent licences several times the cost of a user licence. The total depends far more on the split between full agents, supervisors and occasional users than on the headline rate, and AI capability is priced separately at volume. We model the full figure against your own numbers.
What is the difference between RingEX and RingCX?
RingEX is the business phone, video meetings and team messaging platform, renamed from RingCentral MVP in 2024. RingCX is the contact centre product launched in late 2023. They are sold separately. An older RingCentral Contact Center product also exists, built on a third party platform, which is why quotes are worth reading carefully.
Does RingCentral have Australian data residency?
Yes. Oceania is one of nine regions RingCentral supports, running on Amazon Web Services, and it is one of the reasons the platform appears on Australian shortlists where others are eliminated. Confirm which components are covered, because voice, recordings and AI processing are not automatically in the same region.
What are the main alternatives to RingCentral?
8×8 and Dialpad for a similar unified offering at a lower price point, Genesys where the contact centre is the priority and routing depth matters, Zoom where the organisation already runs Zoom, and Microsoft Teams Phone where telephony inside M365 is enough. 3CX is the alternative when concurrency is well below headcount.
Is RingCentral certified for Microsoft Teams?
Yes, with both Direct Routing and Graph API integration. It is a common choice for organisations standardising on Teams that need contact centre capability Teams does not provide natively. Whether it beats Teams Phone with a Teams certified contact centre depends on your call volumes and your appetite for a second vendor.
Do you sell RingCentral?
We advise on it. We are vendor funded, so the service costs your business nothing, and we hold relationships across more than thirty vendors rather than one. If RingCentral is the wrong answer for your situation we will say so.
We are vendor funded and completely free to your business. Always focused on the right outcome.

Most RingCentral proposals we review have the wrong licence mix and no uplift cap. Book a call and we will model it against your numbers, then compare it against the platforms it displaces.
