8×8 in Australia: XCaaS, pricing and what to check

Independent advice on 8×8 for Australian buyers. What the X Series editions actually include, why a single licence across phone and contact centre changes the arithmetic, the residency question worth settling early, and the trade you are making on AI.

How 8×8 works

Four things that decide whether 8×8 suits you

8×8 sells the phone system and the contact centre as one platform under a single licence, which is the argument for it and the source of the questions worth asking.

01

One platform, one licence, one support path

The X Series editions run from telephony at the lower numbers through to full contact centre at the higher ones, on the same platform. Where competitors sell you a phone system and a contact centre as two products with two contracts, 8×8 sells one. On a mid-market rollout that removes an integration project and a support argument.

02

The uptime commitment is the strongest in the category

A 99.999 percent platform SLA is a higher published commitment than any comparable vendor on an Australian shortlist. What matters is what it pays out and what it excludes, which is in the checks below, and the number is still the strongest starting point available.

03

Workforce and quality management are native

Forecasting, scheduling, quality management, speech and text analytics and post-call surveys are built in rather than bought from a partner. Against RingCentral, which uses third party workforce management, that is a second contract avoided.

04

The AI position is behind the leaders

Virtual agent and sentiment analysis are there. Live agent assist, the capability that coaches an agent during the call, is not native. If AI in the agent workflow is a priority today, Dialpad and Genesys are ahead, and this is the clearest gap in the 8×8 proposition.

Fit

Where 8×8 wins, and where the gaps show

8×8 is built for the middle of the market, and it is honest about that. The question is whether your requirements sit inside it.

It suits you when

You are mid-market, you want phone and contact centre on one licence, you need native workforce management without a second vendor, and you run Salesforce, HubSpot or Google Workspace. The pricing is competitive against RingCentral for the same scope and the certification list covers most requirements short of government.

Unified and mid-market

Look elsewhere when

You need live agent AI assist today, you are a small team where per user pricing is hard to justify, or you need routing depth at enterprise scale. Note also that 8×8 does not support bringing your own carrier, so your trunks come from 8×8. If keeping your carrier relationship matters, that is a structural constraint rather than a negotiation.

Where it constrains you

How we help

What an 8×8 selection looks like when it is run properly

We are vendor funded, so the service costs your business nothing. This is the sequence we run whether 8×8 wins or loses.

01

Get the edition right

The X Series editions differ substantially and the wrong one either underpowers your agents or pays for capability nobody uses. We map the editions against your actual roles rather than buying one level for everybody.

02

Settle the Australian residency position

8×8 publishes Oceania and APAC among its regions, and its own material still lists Australian residency as an item to confirm. We get a written answer covering voice, recordings, transcripts and analytics before it becomes a contract problem.

03

Price the unified licence against two separate products

The single licence argument is strong and it is not automatically cheaper. We compare it against a phone system plus a separate contact centre from other vendors at your seat mix.

04

Test the AI against what you actually need

If AI is on your requirements list, establish whether you need agent assist during calls or post-call analysis. 8×8 does the second well and does not do the first natively.

05

Confirm the carriage position

8×8 provides the trunks. We check the rates, the porting plan and the emergency calling obligations rather than treating carriage as an afterthought.

Due diligence

What to check before you commit to 8×8

These are the items that decide whether 8×8 still suits you in year three.

Australian data residency, confirmed in writing

8×8 lists Oceania and APAC regions, and its own briefing material carries ANZ residency as an open item. Ask where voice media, recordings, transcripts and analytics each sit, and get it in the contract rather than an email.

What the 99.999 percent SLA actually pays

The highest published number in the category is worth checking against its own terms. Ask for the service credit schedule, the exclusions, the maintenance windows and who has to raise the incident before the clock starts.

The AI roadmap for live agent assist

Ask for a date and a commitment in writing rather than a roadmap slide. If the capability matters within your contract term, it belongs in the contract.

Combined phone and contact centre pricing at scale

The unified licence is the commercial argument. Model it at your year three seat mix, including supervisors and part-time staff, against buying the two functions separately.

You cannot bring your own carrier

8×8 does not support bring your own carrier, so trunk rates and porting are part of the same negotiation as the platform. Price the carriage explicitly.

The renewal position

Uplift caps, notice periods, seat reduction rights and what happens to your recordings on exit. Cheap to fix before signature.

Common questions

Questions about 8×8

What Australian buyers ask before they choose 8×8

How much does 8×8 cost?

Pricing is per user per month across the X Series editions, with the telephony editions materially cheaper than the contact centre editions. Because phone and contact centre sit on one platform, the total depends on how many people need contact centre capability rather than on a blended rate. Carriage comes from 8×8 and belongs in the same comparison.

What is 8×8 XCaaS?

XCaaS is 8×8 branding for delivering unified communications and contact centre on one platform under a single licence, sold as the X Series editions. The practical difference against buying a phone system and a contact centre separately is one vendor, one contract, one support path and no integration between the two halves.

Does 8×8 have Australian data residency?

8×8 publishes Oceania and APAC among its data regions, and its own material still carries ANZ residency as an item to confirm. Get a written answer covering voice, recordings, transcripts and analytics separately, and put it in the contract. Genesys and RingCentral are the alternatives with the clearest published Australian position.

How does 8×8 compare with RingCentral?

They compete directly in the mid-market. 8×8 includes native workforce and quality management where RingCentral uses third party products, and publishes a higher SLA. RingCentral has a deeper integration catalogue, a clearer Australian residency position and stronger AI. 8×8 does not allow bringing your own carrier and RingCentral does.

Is 8×8 good for AI in the contact centre?

It is adequate rather than leading. Virtual agent and sentiment analysis are native, and live agent assist during a call is not. If AI in the agent workflow is a priority now rather than later, Dialpad and Genesys are both ahead.

Do you sell 8×8?

We advise on it. We are vendor funded, so the service costs your business nothing, and we hold relationships across more than thirty vendors rather than one. If 8×8 is the wrong answer for your situation we will say so.

We are vendor funded and completely free to your business. Always focused on the right outcome.

Get the 8×8 edition mix and residency position settled.

Buying one edition for everybody is the most common way an 8×8 quote comes in wrong, and the residency answer belongs in the contract. Book a call and we will handle both.
